Groomer highlight - Melissa Frost

How long have you been grooming?

I joined Touch Animal Rehabilitation & Grooming last summer, after moving back to North Bay from Barrie. In Barrie I owned and operated my own salon for 20 years, and have been grooming for an astonishing 24 years.

What other jobs have you had and when did you realize you wanted to be a groomer?

Before becoming a dog groomer, I worked at a Toyota dealership in Brampton as a receptionist. One day I was going though the yellow pages (l’m dating myself) between answering phone calls, and saw ads for pet grooming and an ad to learn to become a pet groomer. I called the number and signed up that evening.

I always knew that I was meant to work with dogs, I just didn’t know in what capacity until I stumbled across that ad.

What type of grooms are your favourite?

During our time in Barrie we had two Standard Poodles, and the breed quickly became one of my favorites to groom. Especially if I can put them in a flashy style.

What pets do you currently have?

We are guardians of two dogs now, a chocolate Lab and a Porti/Border Collie mix.

What was your first childhood pet?

Growing up we always had a dog. My first pet of my own was a little love bird named Petrie.

What is your favourite way to relax after work?

I am a member of the Ontario Dog Groomers Association and I regularly take additional grooming courses in my spare time, plus

I love to garden and I can not wait to get my gardens established here.

What is your favourite thing about working for Touch?

When I closed my salon in Barrie I was used to working on my own and was a bit apprehensive about joining an established team. It was silly to worry, because everyone here at Touch has quickly become like family.  There isn’t a day that goes by where we aren’t laughing together and supporting each other.

How lucky am I to have found my self here?
